Perspectives- Chairman Goslin
Happy
New Year! I sincerely wish
you and your family great health and success in 2003. With
the change of year comes a change of leadership at the Glenview
Chamber of Commerce. It is with pride and a profound sense
of purpose that I assume the Chairmanship of your Chamber.
The
business community in Glenview consist primarily of small to
medium sized, closely held, privately owned – and in many cases,
family run – businesses. My focus this year as Chamber
Chair will be to offer a number of new programs that are designed
to add value to your Glenview Chamber membership . In
my letter to you dated January 8, 2003 I outlined these new initiates
and today I provide their respective mission:
Small
Business Council – its mission is to examine the challenges
facing small business today, develop resources to meet
those challenges in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
This council will be chaired by Pam Mers of Cornerstones
Publishing and co-chaired by Barbara Lochen
of Simplified Support.
Technology
Alliance – its mission
is to help our members understand the rapidly evolving
and often overwhelming variety of technological options
available today, and offer any array of information resources
on user-friendly applications. This alliance will be
chaired by Helen Gallagher of Computer Clarity.
Not-for-Profit
Council – its mission
is to explore ways Not-for-profits, service clubs and
the business community can better interact with and enhance
each other. This council will be chaired by Jim
Jennings of Jennings Chevrolet and co-chaired by Steve
Bucklin of Glenbrook Security Services.
Business
Action Forum – its mission
is to seek fair, responsible resolutions to simple problems
between the village and business owners. The council does
not seek, nor will it have oversight over village policy
or regulation. Serving on the forum will be Chamber
Chair Gregg Goslin, Village President Larry Carlson ,
a village Trustee, a chamber board member ( Denny
Hebson of Hackney’s on Lake ) and Village
Manager Paul McCarthy .
Walt
Disney once said, Many hands, hearts and minds generally contribute
to anyone’s notable achievements.” As I begin my term as Chairman
I ask for your hands, hearts and minds as we work together to
build the Glenview Chamber of Commerce into a resource for all
its members.
Thank
you for the opportunity to serve as Chairman of the Glenview
Chamber of Commerce. Please let me know how we can serve you
better.
GETTING TO KNOW YOUR FELLOW MEMBERS
CORPORATE
PRINT SOURCE
After
twenty-six years representing major business forms manufacturers
to corporate buyers in the Chicago loop, Jim Martin opened his
own print brokerage company in December 2000. Without owning
a press, Corporate Print Source supplies service
to customers in Chicago, Glenview and other suburbs.
Martin
is sometimes asked, “How do you fit into the marketplace – what
function do you serve? Why shouldn’t I just call someone who
has a plant with salespeople who can really watch over my job
as it is produced?” All these questions are answered by looking
at firms like Corporate Print Source . The customers
they serve have many printed products to purchase: business forms,
envelopes, labels, color brochures and catalogs. Without knowing
a good print broker, a business owner would have to see salespeople
for each product. His prices would also include a commission
for each of these representatives.
When Corporate
Print Source is at your desk, you can cover all your
needs with one person who knows just which plant should get
each order. Not being tied to one printing plant, orders are
placed with the right manufacturer for each particular job.
If time permits, several sources can be quoted, allowing the
job to be produced at the lowest market price. It is important
to note that these sources used by the distributor communities
are printing plants that operate with no sales staff and their
pricing reflects that. These “printers to the trade” exist
using companies like Corporate Print Source as their sales
force keeping prices at a “wholesale” level so the distributor
can take an operating margin too.
Corporate
Print Source has exceeded first and second year projections and
is on the way to doing that again for 2003. The company offices
are at 1969 Johns Drive. When Jim is not at his desk, fellow
Chamber Member Charlie Haas usually mans the office.
